Relentless

September 30, 2024 | By Chesapeake Contracting Group | Where Vision Meets Values

At Chesapeake Contracting Group, our vision is clear: to be the top choice builder in every market we pursue, while enriching the lives of our associates. This vision isn’t just something we aspire to—it's something our people bring to life every day. Through our new Where Vision Meets Values campaign, we are shining a light on the core values that shape our company culture. This month, we focus on one value that truly sets the tone for our success: Relentless—an unwavering and persistent pursuit of excellence.

Marie Schmitzer, an Assistant Project Manager working on the Waldorf Station Apartments, embodies this relentless spirit. Waldorf Station, nestled in the heart of Waldorf, Maryland, is no small feat: 302 apartments spread across eight buildings, complete with amenities like a dog park, a pool, and a clubhouse. The project has faced multiple redesigns, adding layers of complexity and pressure. But Marie has never wavered.

When the going gets tough, Marie’s team can count on her to push forward with unshakable determination. No matter the hurdles, Marie remains focused, ensuring every submittal is complete and the project stays on course. It’s not about merely checking boxes — it’s about holding herself and the project team accountable to the highest standard. EJ Youngling, Vice President, captured her dedication perfectly: "Marie’s ability to stay on top of every detail and hold her team accountable is commendable. She embodies what it means to be relentless—her determination to deliver results under pressure makes her a true asset to our team.”

Her commitment did not go unnoticed by her colleagues either. Jeff Konkus, Senior Project Manager, reflected on her tenacity: "I would like to recognize and congratulate Marie for her relentless effort buying out Waldorf Station. Your relentless efforts and diligence are appreciated and commended."

It is not just individuals who carry the torch of relentlessness at Chesapeake. Our Pre-Construction team recently demonstrated what it means to be relentless during a series of high-stakes multi-family bids. These bids required not only precision but also proactive communication with our internal team and trade partners. The department went beyond merely submitting numbers—they ensured the projects were priced competitively, flushing out issues in the bid documents and guaranteeing that every partner fully understood their role.

Their efforts didn’t go unnoticed. One client recently commended the team’s work, praising them for their relentless pursuit of accuracy and responsibility. As Vice President of Pre-Construction, Micah Boyce shared, "Our Pre-Construction team is relentless in their efforts. They push through the multitude of obstacles in the process, endeavoring to get as many details clarified and coordinated during the bid phase as possible, while continually striving to challenge for a better way. Each opportunity we take on is seized to add value. Their relentless pursuit of perfection is what makes Chesapeake stand out."

This relentless spirit also took center stage during the Randallstown Self Storage project. Spearheaded by Senior Project Manager Chris Golden, Superintendent Bob Huff, and Project Engineer Alex Pitts, the team not only met the owner’s high expectations but exceeded them by finishing the project ahead of schedule. It was a project full of moving parts—from coordinating low voltage and access control setups to preparing for final inspections. The team refused to let any detail fall through the cracks.

Chris Golden’s leadership during the final push ensured that critical inspections were lined up perfectly, setting the team up for success. But he was not alone in his efforts. Alex Pitts, juggling new responsibilities with the Estimating Team, remained deeply involved in Randallstown, handling billing and change orders seamlessly. Chris had nothing but praise for Alex’s contributions, stating, "Alex’s relentless work ethic, even as he transitioned into new responsibilities, is a testament to his dedication. He was a key player in keeping the project running smoothly." And the client agreed, declaring, "I think this entire team is iconic and will forever be the best team I have worked with."

In every story, whether it’s Marie’s tireless dedication, the Pre-Construction team’s precision, or the Randallstown project team’s outstanding performance, one truth becomes clear: at Chesapeake, we don’t just build projects—we relentlessly pursue excellence. Our people are the heart of our success, and their drive to go above and beyond ensures that Chesapeake will continue to lead with purpose, passion, and persistence.
