Meet John Brown
Meet John Brown, Senior Estimator and this month’s Hard Hat Hang-Up feature.
John got his start in construction when he entered into trade school for plumbing. John then went into the general contracting side of the business, working in estimating for over 20 years. When asked what he likes most about being a Senior Estimator, John’s answer is simple – “I like figuring out how to make a project successful and learning something in the process.”
John joined CCG in 2018, quickly become an instrumental player within the Estimating department and most known for giving a fist bump to his fellow associates. His favorite thing about working at CCG is “the environment, which is of course, the people. Great people create great results,” John adds. His advice to those entering into the industry was passed down to him through a fellow teammate – “I was reminded of this by a team member during one of our bids: There are no short cuts. Everything matters. You need to follow up and follow through with everything you do.”
When John is not at work he enjoys spending time with family and friends, gardening, marksmanship, fishing, golf and a warm Sunday afternoon at the grill.
Read more about John below:
1. What got you into the construction industry?
After I got out of high school a girlfriend’s father asked me what my “intensions” were and he meant it. He wanted an answer to make sure I was worthy of his daughter. I scrambled, what can I do? So I thought about it, I have no skills. Again, what can I do? So I thought, wait, what do people need – electricity? No too dangerous and I am too clumsy, this is a bad idea. Water, they need that right???? So, that’s what I went with and told him, “I am going to be a plumber.” He looked down, thought a while, nodded and then looked at me and said, “That sounds great John, if you need any help with that, I am here to help.” The next thing I know, I am in trade school, then her father got me working in the industry – fast forward – CCG TEAM!!!!!
