Where Vision Meets Values: Responsible

At Chesapeake Contracting Group, responsibility is more than just a core value; it’s the foundation of our work, our people, and our community. Our vision—to be the top choice builder in every market we pursue while enriching the lives of our associates—shapes every project we take on and every partnership we build. It’s a vision realized by individuals like Superintendent Frankie Mauck, project teams like Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Fitout Project, and our ongoing commitment to the communities we serve.

Frankie Mauck exemplifies our Responsible core value through his work on-site and his dedication to fostering a culture of care and support. During Construction Safety Week, Frankie took the stage at our annual safety standdown event to address the importance of mental health in the construction industry, encouraging associates to prioritize their well-being and check in on one another. His compassion and proactive approach remind us that responsibility extends beyond job duties; it’s about supporting those around us.

Chesapeake’s Safety Director, Ian Linnell-Simmons, recognized Frankie’s commitment, sharing, “Frankie is someone we want to recognize as an example of creating a good safety culture on his projects. It’s not only enforcing safety protocols, conducting safety meetings, and ensuring that all the workers follow Chesapeake safety guidelines. More importantly, he takes the time and shows that he cares personally, wanting what’s best for all the workers on the project.” Frankie’s dedication serves as a shining example of what it means to be responsible at Chesapeake.

For our entire MDH Fitout project team, responsibility has been at the heart of transforming the old Social Security Administration complex (formerly known as MetroWest) into an innovative 550,000 square foot space in Baltimore City. From pre-construction and estimating through project management and field operations, this team has tackled the challenge of renovating an expansive, long-vacant building with unwavering accountability and precision. Will Stann, Vice President and MDH Fitout project leader, shared his appreciation, stating, “This team has been responsible in every sense of the word — meeting and exceeding client expectations by maintaining Chesapeake’s standards for excellence, closing the loop with stakeholders, and proactively managing the complexities of this project. Their dedication to delivering on commitments and continuously keeping lines of communication open has been instrumental in the progress we’ve made.”

Beyond individual projects, our responsibility to the communities we serve remains a priority. Chesapeake associates uphold this commitment year after year, whether it’s through volunteering, fundraising, or showing up for causes that matter to us and to our neighbors. One of the ways we embody this responsibility is through our golf tournament for the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, an event that has become a cornerstone of our community outreach. This year, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our sponsors, partners, and associates, we raised nearly $500,000 for the cancer center. The funds will directly support innovative cancer treatments, research, and patient care, making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.

Our dedication to responsibility also extends to our future workforce. This year, our Chesapeake EDGE interns joined forces with Habitat for Humanity to assist in building a home for a family in need. This experience not only allowed our interns to see firsthand the positive impact of their work, but it also strengthened their understanding of the core values that drive Chesapeake.

With the holiday season just around the corner, Chesapeake associates are preparing for one of our most beloved traditions: the annual Giveback campaign. Every year, we break into teams to provide essential support to local families during the holidays. Whether it’s purchasing food and clothing, gathering toys for children, or assembling care packages, our teams come together to make the season a little brighter for those in need. For us, this initiative is about more than just delivering donations; it’s a chance to connect with and uplift our community, one family at a time.

At Chesapeake, responsibility is more than a core value—it’s a commitment to excellence, integrity, and unwavering support. Through people like Frankie, the MDH Fitout project team, and our entire company’s dedication to community service, we build not only projects but a legacy of accountability and care.
